Library Instruction & Information Literacy Sessions

Please visit our Library Instruction Portal (LIP) for everything you need to know, including our Mission, Instruction Policy, Library Classroom layout, Book a Library Session form, Calendar of Classes, ACRL Framework, Assessment, and Contact Information.

We offer custom library instruction classes to help students learn effective research strategies and how to use the library's electronic and print resources. The librarians collaborate with faculty to provide specialized instruction and assessment. As necessary, the librarians also design and provide a specific web-based library guide that directs students and faculty to the best library research for the assignment. Students have 24-hour access to these guides and resources

During the fall and spring semesters, please contact Ron Foster (607) 587-4310 to book a class. Please book your classes by noon on Wednesday the week before at a minimum so the Library can plan its weekly work schedule in an orderly fashion.

Summer sessions - contact Joe Petrick to schedule library instruction sessions for your classes.

ILL-Interlibrary Loan

Learn how to set up an interlibrary loan account using Illiad.  Note that faculty and staff at Alfred State may borrow materials in person from the libraries of Alfred University with a valid ASC ID. Contact Jane Vavala (607) 587-4315 or Nick Cousino (607) 587-4316.

OER (Open Educational Resources)

We are happy to help you integrate Open Educational Resources (OER) into your classes. This Guide includes information on the purpose and benefits of OER, and provides guidance on how and where to find:  Open Textbooks, Open Books, Open Access Articles, and respositories (Electronic collections). Need help? Contact Nick Cousino (607) 587-4316.

Adding Course Reserves

The Library does not routinely purchase textbooks because of their high cost and frequent revision.

Faculty are strongly encouraged to donate copies of their assigned texts to the library's reserve collection.

Bring reserve materials to the library's Circulation Desk, or send via campus mail (addressed to Alex Hoffman -- Library).

Complete the form linked below and include it with the materials to be placed on reserve.

For more information contact: Contact Alex Hoffman (607) 587-4314.
