Alfred State College Authors: ASC Authors

A formal floral designer, Stephanie Haefner tossed her floral knife and stem wrap to follow her dream of becoming a published author. Before a ten year career in the floral industry, Stephanie was at a crossroads deciding between Floriculture Merchandising and Journalism as a college major. The floral detour lasted only so long and she once again found desire in creating written word, no longer feeling a connection with roses, gardenias and peonies. She started a true love affair with fiction and can easily lose herself in the worlds she creates.

Christina is a 2003 graduate. She co-authored, "Men and Woman Beyond the Divide". Christina has a bachelor degree in Software Engineering and over 18 years of experience in project and team management. She has over 7 years of corporate experience programming high end e-commerce sites that serve an international market. She trains corporate managers & supervisors in project and time management, conflict resolutions and various social media & software strategies.

Born in Budapest, Hungary, Berliner graduated from the Madach Gymnasium in Budapest. In 1949, the Berliners emigrated to the United States. Berliner earned degrees in psychology and counseling at New York University, the University of Rochester, and SUNY Buffalo, hiring on as an assistant professor of psychology at Alfred State College in 1965, where he remained until his retirement in 2002.

Ellen H. Ehrig was born and educated in Brooklyn, NY. She graduated from Brooklyn College (BA in political sciences) and Pratt Institute (master of library science). After working for several years in the Brooklyn Public Library and Fogler Library at the University of Maine, she moved to Alfred, NY where she worked as a librarian at the Hinkle Library for 34 years, retiring in 2004.

Dr. Kellogg is a Professor Emeritus of Psychology at Alfred State, He has received grants from the SUNY Research Foundation to develop teaching materials on the Sherlockian methods of problem solving and has delivered conference presentations on Sherlock Holmes at Colby College, the Stevens Institute of Technology, and Alfred University.

Richard (Rick) Mitchell has been widely published in a variety of magazines and literary journals. Prior to coming to Alfred State, Mitchell taught at SUNY Delhi and at North Country Community College in Saranac Lake. The Johnson City native holds degrees from Broome Community College and SUNY Oswego, and earned a PhD in English from the University of Nevada.

Bill Rezak, a first generation Arab-American, served as president of Alfred State College, a unit of the State University of New York, from 1993 to 2003. Upon retiring, he launched a project to determine how his family came to America. The result is an historically correct and captivating novel entitled, “The Arab and the Brit: The Last of the Welcome Immigrants” published by Syracuse University Press.

Loretta Miller Smith taught nursing for 19 years. During that time she co-authored a nursing text, "Clinical Calculations", with Joanne Daniels.

Dr. Bill Stewart taught courses in business and court reporting for 27 years. Dr. Stewart authored , "Elephants Have the Right of Way", which chronicles his experiences teaching in Africa.
