Building Accessibility: Hinkle Library

  • Parking:  The nearest accessible parking for the Hinkle Library on the Alfred campus is in the Student Development Center lot (parking lot 10). Once parked, go past the Student Development Center; turn left and then right to get to the front entrance of Hinkle Library.  See campus map.
  • Front entrance doors and lobby doors are handicapped accessible
  • Elevator: from the main entrance, go straight back and turn right
  • Lowered water fountains are on main and top floors
  • All computer workstations are wheelchair accessible
  • Bathrooms
    • Wheelchair accessible bathrooms are on the basement level; take elevator to 1st floor and proceed down the hall
    • Gender neutral bathroom is located on the main floor of the library
  • Quiet Study Area:  Located on the upper level of the Library building
  • Service animals are welcome in the library
  • Group study rooms on top floor of Library are wheelchair accessible. Note: Currently not in use due to construction.

Wellsville Campus Library

Wellsville Campus Library

  • The library is currently located across from the Culinary Arts building and adjacent to the Campus Services building on the Wellsville Campus. 
  • The closest accessible parking is in lot 44 (see Wellsville campus map)
  • The entrance to the Library has a ramp and automatic doors; the door to the Library are kept open during the hours of operation (Monday – Friday: 8-noon; 1-4)
  • Workstations and tables are wheelchair accessible.
  • Service animals are welcome in the library
  • Bathrooms:
    • The current library building has accessible bathrooms
    • The student services building has a gender neutral accessible bathroom
  • Read & Write is loaded on the workstations
  • Help using the library is available during the hours of operation

Note: The new location of the library will be in the Student Services building, along with the Office of Accessibility Services.  Quiet study space will be available here as well as access to resources for learning and developing study skills.

 

Accessibility Software & Hardware

  • Read & Write: is available on all library workstations
  • All workstations include Adobe Acrobat Professional with accessible options and tools, as well as Windows "Ease of Access."
  • All workstations have headphone ports; headphones are available for loan from the Reserve Desk
  • The Library is acquiring a self-service scanner equipped with magnifier, narrator (read aloud/translate text), scan to audio, Adobe PDF and Searchable PDF, and OCR capabilities

Research Assistance

The librarians at Hinkle Library offer individualized research assistance to students, faculty, and staff who wish to use our many excellent resources. Feel free to call 607-587-4313, email library@alfredstate.edu, or stop by the Information Desk on the main floor of the Library.

Borrowing/Using Materials

  • Request assistance in locating, retrieving, copying, or using materials at the Information Desk on the main floor of the Library.  In addition you may contact us at: library@alfredstate.edu, or call 607-587-4313.
     
  • Course Reserves/Class Materials: The library staff will work with the Coordinator of Accessibility Services to ensure that physical materials put on reserve in the Library can be made available to eligible students. Contact Melanie Ryan at 607-587-4122 for more information.
     
  • Interlibrary Loan: The library will try to locate and borrow large print editions of requested books. Contact Jane Vavala at 607-587-4315 for more information.
