Interlibrary Loan Basics

Borrowing from other libraries, Interlibrary Loan (ILL)?

If neither the Hinkle Library nor the libraries at Alfred University have an item, we can request it from other participating libraries.

Charges: If the only library that has the item you want charges to loan the item, you are responsible for paying the fee.

What Can be Requested

Typically Requested : Books & Articles
(Books required for ASC classes are not available via interlibrary loan)

Not Typically available from other libraries: AV materials, textbooks, reference books.

How Long: It can take a few days or up to a few weeks.

Copyright:

  1. Rule of five: Only five articles from a periodical title published in the last five years may be obtained in any calendar year or Royalty Charges will apply.
  2. No more than one article in an individual issue of a periodical may be obtained in any calendar year or Royalty Charges will apply.
